over which sweets to buy.  Often
she left with nothing,
bit the inside of her mouth, 
tasted blood.  

It’s been that way ever since.  

How to date?  Even if she sees
under the wrapper, it might fail.  
Can she believe in God?  
Should she stay at her job?  

Her brain, a pot of water
boiling, no one around, 
fire surrounding steel.
