Good Girls

Jeanette Geraci

If a stranger watched
the sway of my hips, would he guess

that, as a child, I ate
with such appetite that a house guest
once asked my father if he starved
me for punishment?

I want to live in a place
where there’s no doubt
that red and blue make

purple – where a bruise
on a woman’s neck always means
I love you
