Rhona’s Nighttime Story
Abby Chew
I dreamed I was a milking maid.
I loved the animals, loved their wet, heavy noses.
I dreamed I had a milking stool, two arms fives legs.
Strange to be spine upright, but good too,
to see the world this way.
For many years Abby Chew worked as a goatherd on a Quaker farm. She moved to California and found a second dog. Her second book of poems, A Bear Approaches from the Sky, is forthcoming from The Word Works Press.
